Bangalore: The NCC Army wing of the Government First Grade College, K.R.Puram,Bangalore , along with the airforce NCC wing  joined hands to make the college campus green and clean. Green campus and clean campus was the motto and hence determined to plant 100 saplings in and around the college campus. This initiative to plant saplings was made possible by the support of the Mahadevapura BBMP Joint commissioner. “Each one plant one” was adopted not merely as a slogan but the NCC cadets have personalized it by adopting one plant each to water it and nurture it till it is fully grown to sustain itself.

With this social activity of tree plantation the cadets learnt that NCC is not all about parades,  and camps but can take up social responsibilities too. The college motivates the cadets to undertake various programs on social relevance such as blood donation, visit to old age homes, educational campaign, cycle rally etc. while most part of city is busy felling trees to construct gigantic cement structures, the GFGCites took to the road less travelled to contribute its mite to restore Bangalore’s old image of garden city.

Prof. Dhanamma, , principal of the college has been very supportive in this venture and encourages all the NCC activities .. It was a pleasant surprise to have joint director of the collegiate education Prof.Lalithamma  to have joined the campaign and plant few saplings along with the special officer P rof. SambojiRa.

Col. Venkatesalu, the commanding officer of 39 KAR,INF, BN,NCC Army wing was the guest for the tree plantation campaign. , he addressed the new enrolled NCC army wing cadets and appreciated them for joining the wing. He also motivated them to pursue nobler causes for the development of the society as cadets and aim high to join the Indian forces. Immediately after addressing the cadtes ,he joined the principal and the other NCC officers in planting saplings. He too urged the cadets to adopt one each plants and nurture it till its growth. The staff and students of the college supported and appreciated the efforts of the NCC cadets and vouched to support such programmes in the future too.

The principal personally congratulated the NCC associate officers Lt. Patrick Rajkumar and Lt. Dr. Somya Sharma for their meticulous efforts and enthusiasm to ensure that the tree plantation was a success. ‘While the cycle rally to commemorate the international women’s day motivated us in one direction the “Grow green Go green” has inspired us to another level’, said one of the senior cadets.
