ARTH – AN AYURVEDIC HEALTH CENTRE HEALING, THE HOLISTIC WAY

Good health is all about maintaining the perfect balance in lifestyle. The lack of balance in today’s lifestyle is the main cause of many health disorders.

The basic premise of the traditional Indian medicinal system of Ayurveda is that every individual has a distinct balance, and his/her health and well-being depend on getting a right balance of the three doshas — vata, pitta and kapha.

Dr Prashanth S. Acharya started Arth Ayurvedic Health centre in Bangalore in 1999 with a vision to create a healthy holistic society of individuals responsible for their own health and well being.
This Ayurvedic Health centre follows the basic rule of rooting out a disorder before it takes on the form of a disease. Though the health centre has a special focus on spine-related problems, it also provides treatment for other disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, hormonal disorders, and allergies.

We have produced 100% results in backache treatments and they include bulge, herneations and prolapsed and treated 1500 people. 30% of patients treated are referred for immediate surgery as suggested by allopathic Doctors. 40% come after surgery and 30% people come directly for Ayurvedic treatment. The age group of people coming to us is from 16 to 85 years .

We have plans to extend our service across the country and abroad too. Some of our patients include familiar personalities like former Prime Ministers and many IAS and high profile officers.

Ayurvedic is the only treatment which gives permanent cure with no side effects Karnataka has 19 colleges and 59 pharmacy colleges. People suffer Asthma for over 25 years and come to Ayurveda and expect result in 25 minutes. It takes minimum 10 weeks to cure such diseases.

SPINE-RELATED DISORDERS
According to Dr Prashanth Acharya, who has done his Ph.D in ‘The efficacy of Kati bastiand matra basti in the cases of asthi dhatu kshaya janya katyashrita vata  (inter-vertebral disc degeneration)’, about 70% of the health centre’s patients come for treatment of spine disorders like cervical spondylosis, lumbar spondylosis, slipped disc and sciatica.

Back pain can be caused by anything — lifting weights, any unusual jerk, bad postures, wearing of heeled shoes, bad roads and continuous two-wheeler riding. Patients could suffer from pain, stiffness, tingling sensation or even numbness. Arth Ayurveda Health Centre follows a treatment procedure — a combination of panchakarma, anti-degenerative medicines and maintenance.

The first stage in the treatment process for spine problems is diagnosis, which is done with the help of MRI scans. The next is Kati Basti, a procedure to concentrate on lower back in diseases like lumbar spondylosis etc.

In this procedure, a well-like structure is constructed with the help of dough made out of gram. In this well, the desired medicated oil is poured and maintained at a certain temperature by heating it from time to time. This is done by gradually increasing the period for which the oil is retained from 20-40 minutes.

The third procedure is Nadi Sweda, in which the patient is treated through a jet steam from a boiling medicated decoction. The fourth stage in treatment is abhyanga or whole body massage.

The next procedure is Patra Pinda Sweda where different herbal leaves are shallow fried and made into a poultice, which is then dipped in warm oil and fomentation is given through this.

DIABETES

This condition causes high levels of blood glucose, which could also result in further health problems such as kidney ailments, heart diseases, stroke and nerve damages, and also blindness in some cases. It is not uncommon to see the onset of diabetes in even teenagers these days.

The treatment procedure at Arth for diabetes involves not only diet modification but also a cleansing processes – panchakarma. This is followed by several sessions of specific exotic medicated herbal massage/anointments, herbal steam and other procedures to cleanse the body.

HYPERTENSION

Hypertension or high blood pressure is a common health condition in today’s lifestyle. Ayurveda views hypertension as a condition caused by the breakdown of doshas resulting in the imbalance of the Vata Dosha.

The first step in the treatment for hypertension at Arth is the correction of this dosha imbalance. Nutrition, exercise, breathing exercises (commonly known as Pranayama), Yoga, meditation, lifestyle modification along with various herbal medicines are also prescribed.

HORMONAL DISORDERS

Given the stressful lives that people lead in today’s competitive world, the number of patients affected by hormonal problems is on the rise. Some of the most common problems include skin conditions like acne, pimples, eczema and psoriasis; hair problems such as hair loss, dandruff and balding; obesity; polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and allergies.

The first procedure in the treatment is diagnosis of the root cause of the problem, followed by a detoxification process. This cleansing process involves vamana – the elimination of toxins through the oral route, and virechana – toxin elimination through the anal/rectal route.

Arth is a fruit of Dr Acharya’s vision that he conceived in 1994 – during the third year of his five-and-a-half-year B.A.M.S course. He set up Arth in August 1999, and in his 16 years of practice, he has treated about 3,500 patients.
