Bangalore ( MT NEWS): “Narasajjana Nursery” was  an environment based short story published in the Kannada weekly “Mangala”.  Very soon this story was made into a Kannada movie. The story is narrated with a non linear screen play. It deals about the emotions of  an old age person neglected by his own children and his struggle against the destruction of nature, fueled  by rapid urbanisation.

Narasajja, a retired teacher brings home  some plants and adopts them as God gifted children. He takes care of them with love and affection. He somehow includes names of his plants in the census list done by the nation unique identification authority department. But when officials came to take photographs,  they get  annoyed to see plants  dressed up as human beings. Eventually, the officials reject Narasajja’s claims and the plants are denied the identity cards.  Narasajja curses their double standard and never gives up the issue. He claims plants as his own children and continue to prove them as human beings. Narasajja strives to get their social identity and equality of living rights and succeeds. But problems continue to stir soon after his sons returned from a  foreign country.  They  plan to destroy the trees  in order  to construct a factory. Narasajja stands against his sons to protect his trees.  Finally he  ends his life with a legal death note (WILL),   transferring his land along with the  trees under the care and protection of the government . The  Government develops it as a Garden and then the place becomes popular as “Narasajjana Nursery”, situated in the heart of the city.
