DD & Samarthanam Trust’s tribute to PBS: A life-changing opportunity for specially abled singers
Haadondu haaduve … Remember this golden track of old from the legendary PB Srinivas? Wherever PBS is, he will be hearing this on September 22, 2013, from his special fans, truly special. Await an open Kannada singing competition to be held exclusively for the visually impaired. Doordarshan in association with Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled will be hosting this unique format show called Madhura Madhuravee Manjula Gana as a tribute to PB Srinivas.
The competition is open only to the visually impaired and physically challenged people of all age groups. Samarthanam has organized such shows successfully in the past and they have been instrumental in showcasing local talents. The September show will also include dance sequences, apart from songs, from PB Srinivas’ golden collections. In all there will be 22 songs including solo and duet and 4 dance sequences. The orchestra will be played by well-known Gururaj Music Troupe. The show will be held at Dayananda Sagar College.
Are you ready for the challenge? The selection trials will kick off on August 18 at Samarthanam Trust office in HSR layout 4th Sector. G.K. Mahantesh, Founder Managing Trustee and also an ardent PBS fan, said he was honored to conduct such a program as a tribute to one of the greatest and all-time singer, PB Srinivas. “It will also be a terrific opportunity for the visually impaired and physically challenged people who have a flair for singing to show that they are as talented if not more than their more fortunate brethren. Who knows, it can even be a life-changing moment for the participants,” he said brimming with enthusiasm.
Giving details, GK Mahantesh said the participants for the selection would be restricted to a maximum of 500 out of which 26 will be selected for each show. Participants can be from anywhere across Karnataka. The finals will be held in two sessions, viz. in the morning from 9 am and in the afternoon from 3 pm. The jury for selection will comprise Sri Mahesh Joshi, Additional Director General, Doordarshan , GK Mahantesh, Founder-Managing Trustee, well known senior singers and a team from Doordarshan. The selection will be purely on merit and conclude with a grand gala ceremony on 22nd September at Dayanand Sagar College.
The Madhura Madhuravee Manjula Gana telecast will run for 8 episodes during September with repeat telecast the following afternoon.
