Over 10,000 people of all ages to be part of Colorothon – a painting extravaganza this Republic Day

Colorothon will have something for everyone– cartoon characters, art bazaars, drum circles,live painting, stand-up comedy, magic show, bike rallies and more, all at Krishna Rao Park, Basavangudi Banalore.

Bangalore, January 21th, 2014: This first month of the year is about painting a new start, and what better day than the country’s Republic Day to come out in large numbers and ‘Draw your Imagination’. At Vande Matharam Colorothon – a Concept of Breathe Entertainment over 10,000 people between the ages of 6 to 80 years will be doing just that on January 26th at the Krishna Rao Park in Basavangudi. The event is being organized by the VandeMatharam Social & Cultural Trust and is in aid of the IDL Foundation, a non-profit organization that works for the cause of the visually impaired. The event will be inaugurated by the Honorable Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, along with RV Devaraj area MLA and B. Mallikarjun, Congress Leader. The Chief Minister of the State, Mr.Siddaramaiah will be present for the Valedictory function. This painting initiative is inspired by an event of the same nature portrayed in the hugely successful movie TaareZameen Par. Darsheel Safary, the little protagonist of the movie is the face for this event.

Speaking on this event, Mr. S N Ashoka, Managing Trustee, Vande Matharam Social & Cultural Organization says, “These hours dedicated to art will transcend all barriers of language and physical abilities. It is guided by our emotions and therefore a simple way to relaxation and an opening of our senses. Through this 1.5 hours dedicated to painting, we are providing people, irrespective of age and ability, a common platform of expression.”

Mr. Kishore Joseph, Director – Breathe Entertainment, who conceptualized this whole event along with his team says, “Our moods and daily life are best depicted in colors. This event will serve to bring together all ages of people and all emotions onto a single piece of paper.Art has always cut across inhibitions and allows people to be their true selves. Choosing Republic Day for the event is our way of attempting to bring people together.”

Mr C S Krishna SettyChairman- Advisory Committee for Vande Mataram  Colorothon, Renowned Artist, Art Critic & Writer says, “Our social milieu today is without an appreciation for art and does not have the ability to express itself creatively and pontaneously. The general approach to life lacks a positive attitude. An event like Colorothon is to help those who want to bring a positive change in themselves. To be a part of this event, one does not need to be an artist or be artistically inclined. This is an event that will help one come out of his shell and express himself.” 

At Colorothon 2014

Painting extravaganza: The painting display is open to all ages between 6 and 80 years. This event  is an attempt to secure a place in the Guinness Book of Records and the Limca Book of records for the most number of people gathered to paint at one place. The theme is to ‘Draw your Imagination’. The paintings will be segregated on the basis of age with 5 categorie

  • Up to 9 years of age
  • 10 to 12 years
  • 13 to 20 years
  • 21 to 30 years
  • 30 years upwards

5 paintings from each category will be chosen to be the best. The first 3 chosen will be honoured by the Chief Minister at the Valedictory function. Besides this, 50 renowned artists will be at the venue and will be painting live. All selected paintings and that of the artists will be up for display. These will then be handed over to IDL Foundation for auction.

Besides the painting initiative, there will be several other highlights to the event such as:

  • A rally by over 200 bikers from the RD350 Bikers Club that will cover a 5km radius.
  • Popular children’s characters such as ChotaBheem, Chutki and Mighty Raju will be part of the rally.
  • Hundreds of members of the cycling community will pedal in honor of the event.
  • There will be live music band performances, art bazars, magic show, drums circle by Drums India, range of stalls, stand-up comedy shows and much more

Colorothon begins at 8.00AM on January 26th  Sunday 2014 at the Krishna Rao Park, Basavanagudi. The painting extravaganza will be between 10 AM and 12.30PM.

Registration is free. All participants are requested to bring their painting paraphernalia, only paper will be provided at the venue.
