NANNA NIMMALLI – ONDU MATHU – A SINCERE APPEAL TO VOTERS : BV RAMESH

B.V. RAMESH, INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE FROM JAYANAGAR EAST, WARD 170
- Naanu Nimmathara Obba (noorakka nooru)
Every Voter dreams of having an Elected Representative who is just like any other ordinary citizen and not a “typical” policitician.
Voters of Jayanagar East Ward now have a REAL chance of realizing this dream.
I am like any of you. But don’t take my word for it. Let me explain why.
Even after being in politics as an activist and social worker for nearly 4 decades, till today I do not own a house or own any land in Bengaluru. This shows my sense of honesty and integrity, and commitment to serving the people.
- After 40 years of serving the people, why no political party has offered a ticket to me.
The answer is pretty obvious. Because for all these years the only thing I did was to serve the people and not to make money! Look at it this way, if I am not going to be corrupt, obviously the party workers who support me also cannot get any benefit! Generally speaking from their point of view, if you are honest, you are a ‘misfit’.
- So no major political party will give a ticket to a honest candidate?
I don’t want to generalize. But after being in politics since the late 80s my experience is today either you have to pay to get a ticket or fund your campaign in a way that suits the party, which means several lacs of rupees. And obviously, you are spending so much only to recover it after you win by taking money for contracts, etc.
- But I did contest earlier.
That was 14 years ago, as an Independent. I lost but I had the satisfaction of being described as a good man who lost in a report in The Hindu. After that I had to wait till now since the Ward was reserved and out of bounds for a general category candidate.
- Why I think the result will be different this time.
Well, my track record is now another 14 years old! People of Jayanagar East have seen me as someone who responds to their problems and takes up the issues of the Ward sincerely and consistently. I am not the sort looking for a photo-op or cheap publicity. That’s also why I have excellent rapport with senior leaders of all political parties like Sri Ramalinga Reddy (Congress), BN Vijaykumar (BJP), for example.
In fact, many people call me as the “unofficial” Corporator. This is because I am invariably the first to respond in their hour of need, whatever be the problem, civic issues, personal, police problems, harassment, etc.
I have also undertaken a lot of activities as a social worker, viz. blood donation camps, especially during the Kargil war, relief donation camps for earthquake and flood victims, apart from taking part in Cauvery water protest, and other social welfare activities.
- My Campaign till now and the feedback from the people.
I actually started nearly 6 weeks ago. I was the first to file the Nomination. I am putting my 100% because as a social worker I can only do so much, whereas as an elected Corporator, I can definitely make Jayanagar East the number one Ward in Bengaluru. I say this because of my unmatched experience and knowledge of the Ward, and my honesty.
- A brief on how and why I became a political activist.
Emergency in 1975 was my baptism into politics. Inspired by top leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan (JP), Ramakrishna Hegde, TR Shamanna, VS Krishna Iyer, M Chandrashekar, Nazeer Sab, C. Byregowda, etc I put my heart and soul into serving the people as the President of Janata Yuva Morcha unit in Jayanagar. I even quit my job as a Typist in the Police Department in protest against the policy of the State not to allow the hosting of the National Flag at Hubli.
After those heady days, it has been a long journey of trying to solve the problems of people in Jayanagar, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion, and without any self motive too.
Friends, please give this a serious thought:
You deserve better. You need one who is committed to you, loyal to you, and does what is good for you and your Ward, who is available to you when you want, who delivers on promises, and whose only interest is to make your quality of life better, so that you will take pride in Your Elected Representative – a person who truly represents only you and not just any political party, caste, creed, community, religion, etc.
Friends, please Bless me with Your Vote.
Either way, I will be always with you – like for the past 40 years. For to me, politics was, is and will continue to be a Service and not a Profession.
